This annual concert, now in its 13th year, brings the best in both traditional and cutting edge blues to the Redwood Empire. This year the legendary Charlie Musselwhite and Delta Blues sensation Big Jack Johnson are welcomed for a celebration of the musical legacy of Clarksdale, Mississippi, the Birthplace of the Blues. With 14 W.C. Handy awards, 6 Grammy nominations, a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Monterey Blues Festival, and the Mississippi Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts to his credit, longtime Redwood Empire resident Charlie Musselwhite is firmly entrenched in music history. Big Jack Johnson, currently residing in Clarksdale, gained national recognition in the 1970’s with the critically acclaimed Jelly Roll Kings, and has gone on to solo appearances in the PBS documentary River of Song and 9 W.C. Handy Award nominations Master of Ceremonies Bill Bowker has been programming American roots music in the Redwood Empire for many years and is host of the award winning weekly Blues With Bowker show on KRSH 95.9 FM.
