Sonny and Phil at the Golf Club, and Donny's Pro Jam
By Anne Exton
March 11, 2008
I stopped in to hear Sonny Lowe and Phil Ajioka playing Monday night at the Sonoma County Golf Club in Cotati. It's a low key, early in the week gig. The regular customers at the bar loved the music. I heard countless murmurs, even declarations of, "Really good music", and "This is great!"
Sonny was in very good form; his harp licks are refreshing and brimming with feeling. It's so good to hear him again! It was great to hear him, and he'd playing well and he looks to be woodshedding increasing his chops.

He's sharing leads with Phil whose virtuosity shines. Phil's slide guitar work is a real stand out, very authentic and full of integrity.

Not quite ready to quit, I pushed on to the Tradewinds where Donny Mederos presides over an invitational Monday night jam. This one was dynamic!
The Winds bandstand and most of the floor was virtually occupied by A-1 musicians. Two keyboards, two guitars, bass, tenor, trumpet, harmonica, conga and vocals trading off and sometimes all blowing together.

Donny's a terriffic organizer, conductor, however you call it, he managed to coordinate multiple, excellent solos without ever losing momentum. I think the crowd was having more fun than anybody should on a Monday!
I'll be back.
