So, Rolfy, what do those asterisks mean anyway?
There is no real system, it's just me, sometimes I forget. I pretty much have to see the band before I rate them.
In general, one star means they are a decent band that gave a good performance when I saw them and are worth seeing. Also, proven bands with a weekly gig somewhere (rare now) automatically get one star.
Two stars means I think they're really worth seeing.
Three stars means they are a top band and really worth seeing at the venue listed.
Four stars means usually they are a National Band at the top of their performance or else a very top regional star in a very fine setting.
Five stars means they sit at the right hand of God. Or are a Really Big Act at a Big Festival or major venue. B.B. King gets five stars.

Obey orders! Join the Sonoma Tunes Yahoo Group, you'll love it!

How can my ELKS Lodge go about posting musical events on the calendar?
Posted by: Freda at May 16, 2005 11:22 AM
Send them to rolfyboy@sonomatunes.com. We're a blues-based site but we include jazz, funk, swing, better roots musicians, and some folk. We haven't posted rap, punk, or polka music. Quality counts too--the great musicians get posted regardless of genre. Send them and if they fit, I'll post them.

Rolf, Good to see the site up and looking so good. Now if we can just get back into the Tradewinds life will be perfect. I have some notes on blues jams listings that might be of interest:
Thursday nights with Sonny Lowe at Jaspar’s is not a jam. They have a regular band with invited special guests. Good music too.
The Mt.Tam Band jam at 19 Broadway is not every Sunday, just once a month on the 3rd. Sunday of the month. Nice people and it’s a fun jam.
Open mic at the Twin Oaks is every OTHER Monday, with the next one being June 6th.
This is the most worthwhile blues/jazz/funk jam in the county, high quality house band and jammers. Novices need not apply!
See ya,
Neil

FYI, Gail Muldrow's CD Release Party is 8/26 at 19 Broadway in Fairfax.
NOT at Peri's in Fairfax.
Gail is AMAZING and must be seen and heard in person to fully get this hurricane of talent.
Ciao

Dear Sonoma Tunes,
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your promotion of the Hurricane Katrina Blues Benefit in Benicia. I hope some of you were able to come see the music. We had a wonderful evening of music with Johnny Ace, Alvon, Don Bassey, Robert Beane, Randy Bermudas,Stef Burns,T ommy Castro, Steve Freund, Gary King, Cathy Lemons, Maria Muldaur, Pork Pie Phillips and Bobby Vega and we raised $8,600 for The American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Thank you so much for helping us out promoting this event. Your support helped to make it the success it was and I appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Rhonda Lucile Hicks

Hi Rolf,
Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know about a couple things. First, the Acoustic open mic on Mondays at Peri's is from 9:30 to 1:30 and there are open mics at the other 2 venues on the block as well at Cafe Amsterdam and 19 Broadway.
Wed at Peri's we have Spinout, with lots of Elvis and more, high energy rock-a-billy.
Sat at Peri's is a smoking blues, R & B and funk band, Sweetie Pie and the Doughboys, fronted by the powerful presence and amazing vocals of Cathleen Riddley.
And three of the first four days of Feb we'll be presenting some bands your readers should be interested in seeing. Swamp Thang on Wed the 1st, playing swamp blues and rock, Thu is Wingnut Adams, a hot blues/rock band, and Sat we have The Good Life Rhythm and Blues Revue, with the big classic blues sound featuring a Hammond B 3 in all it's glory.
I love your site and appreciate the time and energy you put into the blues scene. Great job!
Mike McShea
Peri's Booking
*Thanks Mike. Sorry about the time, the schedule we get isn't always clear and it used to be a different time. I wan't sure what genre Sweetie Pie was from what we were sent. Thanks for the tip about Cafe Amsterdam.
